There are about 530 000 Maoris left in New Zealand, but the most of them are half blooded. In total the Maori people make up 14% of the population in New Zealand, and they make up almost 50% of the people in prison. Today the Maori people have their own radio and television stations.
Like most of indigenous people, the Maori people are exposed to racism. Also they have a high suicide rate, alcohol and drug related problems. They also suffer from more health problems, with smoking and obesity. Among the Maori community Islam is the fastest growing religion.
